Stafford District Voluntary services has served the Third Sector (voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise groups) in Stafford & District for over half a century.
First set up in 1954, today we provide services and support to over 100 non-profit organisations. We provide accommodation in the SDVS Centre for 15 organisations including the Citizen's Advice Bureau, Home-Start, ASIST, Relate and Mencap, where we also provide conference facilities and room hire.
SDVS provide a wide range of services including Charity Law advice, funding information and advice including a funding “Search and Application” service, payroll and accountancy services, computer technical support, access to our reference library, meeting rooms, photocopying, facsimile, colour printing & scanning, laminating, and equipment hire. We also manage the Volunteer Centre Stafford, the Skill Base training service, the Back2Bikes bicycle recycling project, the Staffordshire Rural Support Network, the SCIO Performance & Development office, the Domestic Violence Co-ordinator, and are developing a Credit Union for Stafford Borough. More information about the projects we manage can be found here.
Increasingly, we are working closely with statutory and private sector bodies to foster the important links between these organisations and the Third Sector.
THE PRINCIPAL ACTIVITY OF SDVS “The principal activity and objective is to promote any charitable activity for the benefit of the community in Staffordshire and the West Midlands, with particular reference to the Borough of Stafford”. (Charitable Objects, in our governing document).
SDVS does this by bringing together organisations within the Third Sector and by linking the voluntary, statutory and private sectors with the five functions of services and support, liaison, representation, development and strategic partnership that all infrastructure organisations try to undertake.
